Custom Work

Every piece in the shop started as a one-off before it became part of the regular line, so custom work is how most of the catalog gets built in the first place. Beyond the standard lineup, I also take on custom furniture and serveware, built the same way as everything else here: by hand, one at a time, in my shop in Peoria.

What I build

Board customization

A different size, wood species, or engraving on any board in the shop, including a custom species combination like a variation on the Ombre Board.

Charcuterie boards & serving trays

Built to size for entertaining, in any of the shop's core woods.

Cheese boards & coaster sets

Smaller pieces that pair well with a board you already own, or make an easy gift.

Wine caddies & wine racks

Countertop or wall-mounted, sized to what you're storing.

Tables: coffee, end, and live edge

Larger furniture pieces, including live edge slabs. These are scoped one at a time, so timelines and pricing are quoted individually.

Pricing

Every custom piece is priced on its own, based on size, wood species, and how involved the build is. The boards in the shop are a good reference point: a custom board in a similar size and wood will usually land in the same range, with more complex patterns or rare species running higher. Not sure what fits your budget? Tell me what you're working with and I'll suggest options that make sense.

How it works

1. Send your idea. Use the form below and include as much as you can:

  • What you have in mind (a board, a serving piece, a table, etc.)
  • Approximate size or dimensions
  • Preferred wood species (black walnut is standard for boards, but I work with cherry, maple, padauk, purpleheart, sapele, and more)
  • How it will be used (everyday prep, serving, a gift)
  • Engraving or personalization details, if any
  • A rough budget and the date you need it by

Photos or reference images help too. If you have some, email them to bergerwoodworkingco@gmail.com.

2. Get a quote. You'll hear back within two business days with options, a timeline, and a price.

3. Lock in your spot. Once you approve the quote, I'll send an invoice for a 50% deposit, which reserves your spot in the build queue and covers materials. The balance is due when the piece is finished, before it ships.

4. The build. Custom boards typically take 3 to 4 weeks from deposit to shipping. Furniture and larger pieces take longer, and I'll give you a specific timeline with your quote. I'm happy to send progress photos along the way.

Good to know

Because every custom piece is built specifically for you, custom orders are final sale, and the deposit is nonrefundable once wood has been cut for your piece. Everything else, including the care guide and damage-in-transit coverage, works the same as any order from the shop.
